An Assessment of the Impact of an Animation on Biology Students’ Visualization Skills Related to Basic Concepts of Mitosis

Using external representations (ERs) to foster content understanding in biology education has increased as they allow for the visualization of abstract biological phenomena. However, extent which students have skills required learn from ERs effectively remains an open question. The current quantitative quasi-experimental research sought determine animation could be used enhance students’ and reduce learning difficulties related basic concepts mitosis. Participants were 67 Grade 10 purposively selected learners a South African school. An assessment test was data collection. Results showed that exposure animation, additional tool, improved while reducing We conclude may skills, improve understanding. also broader student development includes visual literacy.
